The lapel flower adds an air of sophistication and flair to an otherwise boring suit. Prince Albert was one of the first men to be photographed wearing a lapel flower. Rumor has it that Queen Victoria gave him flowers just before a photo shoot and he broke one off the bouquet and stuck it in his dress coat.
Lapel flowers can be made from a variety of flowers. Common lapel flower fabrics may include linen, cotton, silk, felt, satin, and burlap. They are attached to the jacket with either a stick pin, or button.
There is a right and wrong way to wear a lapel flower. Just like a real flower a fabric lapel flower should be worn on the left lapel above the heart. The stick pin the flower is attached to should show through the front of the jacket.
